Welcome to North Carolina Religion Roundup, a newsletter meant to highlight major religion news and trends in the Triangle and greater N.C.

Religion plays a big role in people's lives and decision-making. Even so, religion often goes uncovered, mischaracterized or reported outside of its larger context. In North Carolina, few local news organizations have dedicated religion reporters, and for those that do, reporters cover many other beats.

A local education reporter myself in Chatham County, I’m well aware of these limitations. I can’t cover all the important religion stories in our state, no matter my interest in or passion for the subject. My hope with this newsletter is to provide a biweekly roundup of religion news — be it reporting from N.C. and national outlets, insight from local religious leaders or (some) original analysis of religious issues and topics. Though I will aim to provide updates on a variety of religions and faith traditions in the state, I gladly welcome any tips, feedback or news you think I haven’t included but should.

A note: I was inspired to start this newsletter after hearing about the idea from a journalist who co-started a similar newsletter in Colorado, Have Faith, Colorado, in June 2021. (If you live in Colorado, or follow Colorado news, I recommend subscribing.)

That said, I’d love to collaborate with any journalists, readers or people of faith interested in contributing in any way to this venture. I hope to bring more attention to the religion news in the Tar Heel State and am very open to any ideas for improving this newsletter to better accomplish that goal!
